OUELLETTE ACCEPTS MEDIA AWARD FOR THE TEAM...
A.J. Ouellette was recognized as Channel 7's "Player of the Week", but accepted the award on behalf of his teammates, who had his back en route to the end zone against Bethel.
EDITOR'S NOTE: It must be pointed out that Channel 7 was very cooperative throughout the interview process with A.J and respected his wishes of not being interviewed alone. There are media outlets (not Channel 7) who have had issues with the Buccs' policy of no one-on-one interviews and individual stats not being released during the season. The point of this story is how awesome it is to see a group of kids unite and conform to the team concept established by Coach Miller and A.J.'s actions were a great example of that. Channel 7 did an awesome job of quickly understanding the team dynamic and adjusted their line of questions very quickly.
A.J. Ouellette was recognized as "Player of the Week" due to his effort against Bethel.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2013 - COVINGTON
A.J. Ouellette was chosen by Channel 7 as "Player of the Week", which is a well deserved honor for the Buccaneer senior who has worked his tail off to max out in his potential.

But it was very refreshing to see first hand is how the senior reacted to his "individual" award from the local media outlet - turning the entire situation into a team accomplishment.

It doesn't go down very well with some media sources, but A.J. Ouellette and the rest of the senior class are all about the team - therefore one-on-one interviews aren't granted. They could care less about individual stats, individual awards, individual this or that. All they care about is accomplishing things together as a team.

In this day and age where individualism is glamorized in the papers and on television, Ouellette and the rest of senior class on the Covington football team are making a statement that individuality doesn't fit within the Buccaneer "Team Concept" - regardless of what type of individual honor comes their way.

So, instead of breaking away from practice to toot his own horn in a one-one-one interview, Ouellette forced the issue and agreed to only be interviewed with the rest of the team at his side - having his back - like they do every Friday night when he's helping the Buccs accomplish a common goal of winning football games. And with each question that was asked, A.J. answered candidly and about how his teammates are responsible for his success.

It was apparent he was uncomfortable with some of the initial questions that were asked, but Ouellette kept his answers team oriented throughout the entire interview process. The gentleman who conducted the interview quickly noticed Ouellette wasn't going to talk about himself, so he did an outstanding job of respecting the Buccs' wishes by keeping the questions team oriented.

Hopefully Channel 7 doesn't edit his answers to where they seem individualistic when they broadcast the segment on Wednesday, because the way Ouellette turned an individual honor into a team honor is something Covington folks should be very proud of.

Yes, A.J. Ouellette deserves to be recognized as "Player of the Week" by Channel 7, but he gave his teammates the credit for leading him to the end zone.

NOTE: THE SEGMENT WILL AIR ON WEDNESDAY EVENING ON CHANNEL 7.

A.J. Ouellette accepts the Channel 7 "Player of the Week" award from Coach Miller on behalf of his teammates.
