MIDNIGHT HIT: A NIGHT FOR THE KIDS...
It was a chance for the Buccs to release some bottled up energy as they hit for the first time in preparation for the 2007 season.

August 8, 2007 – COVINGTON
After weeks of camps, passing scrimmages and months in the weight room, the Covington Buccaneers couldn't wait to hit - even if it was against each other.

In the first ever "Midnight Hit" at Covington's Smith Field, the Buccs finally got to release some bottled up energy as the clock struck midnight under the bright lights.

In front of nearly 200 Buccaneer fans, the Buccs took to the field at 10:30 pm for team and individual drills. All the while the scoreboard clock ticked down to the official time high school teams across the state were permitted full contact.

The first live contact drill consisted of a ball carrier attempting to score in a goal line situation with two blockers leading the way. Then the Buccs went through a live scrimmage consisting of six series of live go.

Highlights of the "Midnight Hit"
Jordy Burelison - On the second play of the live scrimmage Jordy Burelison lined up at fullback. He took the handoff from quarterback Bill Dickey and raced 60 yards for the touchdown, breaking two tackles on the way.

Brock Iddings - The senior halfback scored two touchdowns in the live scrimmage, one on a 25 yard run and a 30 yard pass from Chris Long. Iddings also had two nice runs of over 30 yards during the scrimmage.

Garrett Clark - Clark scored on a 15-yard pass from Bill Dickey in the scrimmage.

Jeff Zimmerman - The sophomore stunned the first team defense by catching a quick slant from Chris Long and racing 50 yards to set up first-and-goal.

Jake Bitner - The freshman received praise from the coaching staff for his effort on the scout team offense. Bitner had three nice runs for first downs.

JJ Thompson - Proved why he is a three-year starter by his dominating effort in the trenches. JJ had two pancake blocks in goal line drills.

Logan Hall - Logan was a terror last season at nose guard and appears to have picked up where he left off as he was in the backfield on a consistent basis during the live scrimmage.

Logan Hall was chasing down ball carriers all evening from the nose guard position.
