| In spite of only having four cheerleaders returning from a year ago, Covington cheerleading advisor Gretchen Schmidt is excited about the group she will bring to the sidelines on Friday nights in 2007.
"We have seven seniors this year to provide leadership," quoted Schmidt. "Although four of the seniors are first year cheerleaders, what they lack in experience they make up for with great attitudes and hard work."
Senior Ashley Diltz is the lone four-year cheerleader and is one of the three captains along with Jenna Conley and Heather Kieswetter, both three-year cheerleaders.
The other four seniors on the cheerleading squad are Kailey Tobias, April Hughes, Ashley Hoblit and Jessica Snipes.
Schmidt also has at her disposal two juniors with previous football cheerleading experience.
Krissy Dankworth and Krissi Tobias are both in their second seasons cheering for the Buccs, which will help in providing leadership for the underclassman who will be cheering for the first time under the lights.
"They have worked very hard and you can bet they'll be ready when the season starts," Schmidt said. "The girls who have been here before have shown the younger kids the ropes in preparation for the upcoming season."
Rounding out the roster are three girls who are the future leaders of the highly respected program Schmidt has established over the years.
"We have some very talented young girls on the squad in sophomore Abby Millhouse and freshmen Lacey Hagen and Josselyn Tobias," Schmidt explained. "They will be right in there with the upperclassman to cheer on the Buccs to another great season."
And the Buccs hope to give the cheerleaders something to cheer about for another great season on the sideline.
