Three Former Buccaneers Contribute at College Level...
September 3, 2005
The Covington Buccaneers have had some outstanding players come through the program over the past few years, and three of those former Covington Buccaneers played significant roles in key victories for their respective teams at the college level.

Jordan Shafer, a 2003 graduate of Covington, sparked a dominating second half defensive performance by the Morehead State University Eagles in a 26-25 win over St. Francis. After trailing 19-0 at one point in the second quarter, Shafer and the MSU defense held St. Francis to just six points the rest of the way.

Shafer, the starting safety for MSU, recovered a key fumble late in the contest to seal the victory. The recovery game on the last possession of the game as St. Francis drove to mid-field. SFU quarterback Anthony Doria fumbled and Shafer recovered with 1:39 left in the contest. The Eagles were then able to run out the clock for the win.

The junior safety recorded 6 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles and was second on the team with 7.5 tackles. Shafer also broke up a pass.

Brady Reck, a 2004 graduate from Covington, led the Ohio Domincan Panthers to their first victory in school history, Saturday. Reck threw for 2 first quarter touchdowns to spark a 28-0 lead.

Reck, a sophomore at ODU, threw for 255 yards on 18 of 30 passing in the Panther's 49-33 win over Campbellsville University. He also threw for 3 touchdowns and connected on 60% of his passes.

Brady set numerous passing records at Covington, including mast passing yards in a season (1,883), most touchdown passes in a season (22), and most passing yards in a game (257 vs Ansonia).

Matt Fulks, a 2005 Covington grad, participated in his first ever college game as his Ohio Northern Polar Bears defeated Westminster 48-3. Fulks also scored his first collegiate point with an extra point with 12:46 left on the clock in the third period. Fulks then kicked another extra point with 5:39 left in the third. Fulks was 2 for 3 on the day.

Fulks also holds some school records at Covington, including the longest field goal (40 yards), and most field goals in a season (6).

2005 PREVIEW...
APRIL 14, 2005 – COLUMBUS
The second season of college football for two 2004 Covington graduates, Brady Reck and Jared Hague, officially begins April 30th at 10:00 a.m. in Ohio Dominican's Spring football Scrimmage.

Reck and Hague, both standouts at Covington during their high school football careers, made an impression in their first year at Ohio Dominican a year ago. Reck played in four games last season as a freshman and threw for 376 yards, including a season-high 199 yards in the season finale against Taylor University. Hague saw limited playing time as a wide receiver, but has raised enough eyebrows for a move to tight end, a position he excelled in high school. With two tight ends on the roster, Hague is looking to make in impression and press for playing time.

Both Reck and Hague are returning members of the first recruiting class ever at Ohio Dominican, a program entering only its second season. Last season was a learning process as the Panthers finished the season at 0-10, but expectations are higher after a year of growth and the maturity of the returning players who are sticking with the program. As expected with a young program, some players have left the program leaving the door open for other players to step in and contribute, including Reck and Hague.

Brady Reck set numerous passing records at Covington while leading the Buccs to a 19-2 records as the starting quarterback. Reck threw for 1,883 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior, both school records. He also threw for a school record 257 yards in a Buccaneer win over Ansonia as a senior.

Jared Hague was one of Brady's favorite targets as he hauled in 18 passes for 456 yards and 9 touchdowns as a senior. Hague established the tight end position as a threat in the passing game, something that essential in the Buccs finishing with a 40-0 regular season record during the Reck/Hague era.

For those looking to see the Reck to Hague combination again, all it takes is a one hour drive and a can of food. Directions to Ohio Dominican includes: I-75 South to I-70 East to I-670 East to Fifth Avenue turn left off of exit; first street turn right go to the Y intersection bear left and then right the field is on the right. Admission is a can of food.
