The Covington Buccanner express just keeps rolling as they trounce arch rival Ansonia 51-6 in a homecoming celebration. At the midway point of the season, the Buccs have outscored their opponents 232-12 and have extended their regular season winning streak to 38 games.

After naming their homecoming queen, Jesse Angle, the Buccs wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. On the second play of the game Brady Reck connected with Jared Hague down the middle of the field. Hague caught Reck's pass in stride behind the Tiger' defense and raced 72 yards for a 7-0 Covington lead.

"It was a play that both Brady and Jared read very well," said Covington coach Kevin Finfrock. "Our primary target was covered and Brady made the right read and found Jared open down the middle of the field."

Ansonia found some success on their first drive as they moved the ball into Buccaneer' territory. The Covington defense stiffened to turn away the Tiger's scoring threat.

The Buccaneers' offense has a difficult time moving the ball on the Tigers for the remainder of the first quarter. Ansonia clamped down on the Buccaneer rushing attack by playing eight men in the box.

Covington's offense erupted in the second by scoring 28 points in the period. Matt McCord broke free on an 11 -yard run to give the Buccs a 14-0 lead with only 2:00 gone in the period. Reck then connected with Ross Mohler on a 28-yard scoring strike to put the Buccs up 21-0 with 3:23 to go in the half.

It took only 13 seconds for the Buccs to hit paydirt again. Mohler stepped in front of a Greg Wentworth pass and raced 25 yards untouched for the score. The Buccs scored once more before the half with 30 seconds left on a 5-yard pass from Reck to Hague.

Covington continued to roll in the third as Matt McCord broke loose on a 68-yard scamper on the Buccs' first drive of the half. McCord finished with 103 yards on the ground for the night.

Matt Fulks increased the Covington lead to 45-0 with a 32-yard field goal with 4:26 to go in the third.

With the game well in hand Covington turned things over to the second unit. Ansonia took advantage and scored on a 33-yard pass form Greg Wentworth to Andrew Howdieshell. The extra point failed and the score remained 45-6.

The Buccs put one final score on the board as freshman, Gene Studebaker broke free for a 57-yard touchdown run. Fulk's extra point try failed leaving the final score at 51-6.

For the Buccs, Brady Reck passed for 257 yards on 20 attempts and connected for 3 touchdowns. Ross Mohler racked up 104 receiving yards on 3 receptions, one for a touchdown. Mohler and McCord both grabbed interceptions with Mohler's going in for his second score of the night.

"Again, I'm very pleased with our defense," praised coach Finfrock. "Logan Brown and Mike Varno are really playing well. They are flying top the ball and making big plays. Those two leave it on the field. Our special teams also was solid."

Covington improves to 5-0 on the season and 4-0 i the CCC. They travel to Arcanum next Friday to face the other unbeaten team in the league.
