WEST ALEXANDRIA - Last year Covington and Twin Valley South hooked up in a battle that would ultimately decide the Cross County Conference Championship.
South put one on the Buccs handing them their only loss of the regular season, 33-0.
One year later the teams faced off again, but under different conditions.
The Buccs came in undefeated and Twin Valley came in with two losses, both in the CCC.
Still, the Buccs had last year's game on their minds and were seeking revenge.
On a cold, damp night the Buccs got their revenge and then some. Covington pounded the host Panthers 42-7.
The Buccs defense, which gave up 33 points last year, never let the South offense get anything going all night.
Twin Valley's only score came on a kickoff return in the first quarter. South tried every offensive formation imaginable but with no success. They tried letting their all-world quarterback run out of the shotgun formation but the Buccaneer defense was too quick to allow them to get outside. South tried numerous gadget plays, but the Buccaneer defensive line penetrated to disrupt the plays before they even developed.
The Buccaneer linebackers consisting of Dan Burgess, Boomer Schmidt and Jeremy Robinson spent most of the evening in the Twin Valley backfield.
The Buccaneer offense wasn't too shabby either.
Led by Josh Burelison, the Buccs ran through, around and away from the South defenders all night long. Burelison was on fire. He racked up an amazing 231 yards and scored 5 times, one on a 55-yard burst up the middle.
The Buccs improve to 7-0 overall, and 6-0 in the CCC as Twin Valley South falls to 4-3 overall and 1-3 in the CCC.
Covington travels to Ansonia next Friday and hope to gain revenge against the Tigers, who knocked the Buccs out of the state playoffs last season.
