Dave Tobias led the Buccs to the state title game and then played college football at Wittenburg.

Oct. 19 – COVINGTON
Sparked by a sterling performance by Dave Tobias, the Covington Buccaneers tallied 28 first-half points, then coasted to a 28-8 win over Graham.

Tobias ran for three touchdowns and kicked four extra points, scoring all but six of the Buccaneer' points.

The Buccs received the opening kickoff and drove 12 plays, 73 yards for their first score. The big play of the drive came on a 16-yard pass play from Dave Tobias to Greg Rench. The final 18 yards of the drive ended on the legs of Tobias as he scampered into the endzone for a 7-0 lead.

On the Falcon's first possession, the Buccaneers knocked the ball out and Joe Schmidt recovered at the Graham 15-yard line. Joe's brother, Rick took the next play into the endzone for a 14-0 Covington lead.

The Buccs started the second quarter in the same fashion as the first. They marched 80 yards to paydirt, 54 coming on a Tobias run. Four plays later Tobias scored his second touchdown of the night from four yards out to make the score 21-0.

The Buccaneers' final score came with 43 seconds left in the half. After a fake punt by Tobias that kept the drive alive, he then scammpered in from the 7 to close out the half at 28-0.

The 28 first half points were all the Buccaneers would need as their defense held the Falcons in check. Graham did manage to put points on the board after intercepting a Tobias pass and returning the ball to the Buccaneer' 15. A few plays later, Bill Baker dove over from the 1 and the 2-point conversion made the score 28-8.

The second half performance by the Buccs disappointed coach Tidale. "We had a solid first half, but we didn't play well in the second half. Tobias had a a real good game and I was pleased with our defense, too."

The win improves the Buccs to 7-0-1 overall and 5-0 in the Three Rivers Conference. Covington hosts a talented St. Henry team next Friday.
