Gallantly attempting to defend their Little Buckeye League Crown, the Covington Buccaneers finished third with a record of five wins, and two losses in the league.

The Buccaneers compiled an overall record of seven wins and two losses. The offensive and defensive teams performed a commendable job by scoring 249 points against the opposition's 151.

Dave Wimmer led the Buccs in scoring with 78 points. Tim Martin followed with 54 points; John Laughman with 50, and Larry Wise scored 40 points.

Covington opened the season with two straight wins; 27-20 over Tipp City and a 44-24 victory over Bradford.

The Buccs suffered their first of two losses in the third week of the season as Jefferson had too much offensive firepower and grabbed a 33-14 victory from Covington.

After two more wins over Wayne, 28-16 and Carlisle, 18-14, the Buccs suffered their second defeat of the season at the hands of Centerville, 30-14.

Not to be denied, Covington rebounded by winning its final three contests of the season. First, the Buccs traveled to West Alexandria and dominated for a 30-8 victory.

In the final home game of the season, Covington recorded its only shutout of the season with a 32-0 victory over Dixie.

Finally, the Buccs closed out the season with a road victory over Germantown, 44-6.

The Buccs placed four men on the 1962 Little Buckey League All-League team. They were Dave Wimmer, offensive halfback; Gene Laughman, defensive safety; Mike Hudson, defensive tackle; John Laughman, offensive end. Larry Wise and Tim Martin gained honorable mention honors.

Missing from next year's team will be backfield men Larry Wise, Dave Wimmer, Tim Martin, Roger Batson; ends, John Laughman, Denny Rhoades, and Tom Carroll; lineman, Rich Etter, Mike Hudson, Jim Ruhl, and John Thompson. These players have formed a nucleus for the teams in the past and will be sorely missed in the future.

Coach Howard Allman, in his second year as head coach, was ably assisted by Tom Steele and Don Garman.
