Time marches on…as does Coach Blair Irvin's Covington Buccaneers, who Friday night spoiled Germantown Cardinal's Homecoming crowd with a 36-0 triumph, their fifth victory of the current campaign and fourth consecutive shut-out.

Undaunted in any department, the Irvinites scored twice in each of the first two periods, held a 30-0 halftime advantage and played the majority of the contest in Germantown territory. The Cardinals mustered but three first downs the entire evening.

A 62-yard pass play, Bob Hartley to Steve Wells, netted Covington's first score early in the first quarter. Hartly ran for points-after and the White Tide led 8-0. Minutes later, Gordon McMaken was in the end zone, Hartley crashed through for points-after and Covington had a 16-0 first quarter lead.

The onslaught continued during the second quarter as the Buccs scored twice more. Murray scampered eight yards, Hartley ran for two points as Covington moved away. Holsinger's two-yard plunge gave the Buccs another TD; Hartley was stopped short on attempted points-after, but Covington led 30-0 at the end of the half.

Bob Hartley, Covington's All-Ohio Candidate, tallied again in the third period; a pass attempt for conversion points failed, but the Buccs were ahead 36-0.

Defensively, the White Tide seems invincible: offensively the reserves play a great part of the time. Should the present tempo continue, Covington will see a host of letterman…but regardless of who's playing…it's a single unit with one objective.

Covington accumulated 12 first downs, Germantown 3…the Buccs threw 4 passes, completed one, while the Cardinals went to the air 7 times, completing two and losing two by interception…Covington lost 50 yards via penalties, the Cardinals 60… next week, Covington's Homecoming ceremonies at Smith Field versus the Versailles Tigers.
